Moving In & Out
Utilize these suggestions from NAU Off-Campus Life to make sure you are prepared for the moving process.
Moving In
Moving into your new place can be an exciting and stressful time. Between making sure you have all of the basics, arranging furniture, and getting all the utilities hooked up, there is a lot to consider. This information created by NAU Off-Campus Life can help you go into the process feeling prepared.
Utilities
One of your responsibilities living off-campus is to contract with companies to provide your utility services. However, some leases may provide one or more of these services for you. Make sure you ask your landlord or leasing agency before you start making arrangements.
- APS – Electricity
- CenturyLink and Optimum – Cable and Internet
- City of Flagstaff – Water, sewer, trash, and recycling services
- UniSource Energy Services – Gas
Move-In Inspection
On the day you move in, perform a move-in inspection, preferably with your property manager present. Record the condition of all items and immediately after completion, submit a detailed move-in condition report. Make sure you get a copy of the move-in condition report, signed both by you and the landlord, for your files. Upon moving out, this documentation will be essential to encourage fair treatment of your security deposit, if any, and deter wrongful charges. Use this move-in condition checklist to complete this process.
Move-In Box Collection
The City of Flagstaff offers a one-time courtesy box collection service for residential homes with 90 gallon curbside collection. Visit the City of Flagstaff's Move-In Box Collection page for guidelines and instructions on how to schedule the service.
Moving Out
Each year, NAU and the City of Flagstaff collaborate to help students living off campus responsibly donate or recycle unwanted items. Together we can improve our neighborhoods, keep reusable items out of our landfill, and support local sustainability efforts.
Donate or Resell
Make sure your unwanted items get another life. Donate your items to one of the many businesses and organizations in Flagstaff that accept them for reuse. Visit Flagstaff ReThink Waste for a list of options for donating or reselling your items responsibly.
Dispose of Hazardous Materials
The Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center is a great place to dispose electronic and other hazardous items for recycling or proper disposal.
Recycle
